Port Royal & Selinsgrove Speedways Announce Unified Late Model Weight For 2012, Port requires mufflers with season opener slated for March 17

Port Royal – As part of a coordinated effort between Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways, both tracks have announced the minimum weight rule for late models (including car and driver) has been increased to 2,250 pounds and may not exceed 2,800 pounds in 2012. There will be no weight tolerance permitted.

The weight rule for the division in recent seasons was 2,200 pounds.

Speedway officials at both ovals see the move as warranted in order to bring the super late model division in line with top late model touring divisions and other tracks in the region that run the division to create parity.

The increase in the late model weight limit is one of a few rules changes being announced by PRS Promotions officials at Port Royal Speedway.

Port Royal has announced that mufflers will be mandatory for all racing divisions at the track in 2012.

“It just makes sense for Port Royal to take this step in an effort to foster our relationship with our surrounding communities,” says PRS Promotions leader Steve O’Neal of making the move to mufflers.

“We want to be good neighbors.”

The track unveiled revamped pro stock rules in late October aimed at making the class more competitive and affordable.

And now the tweaks to the late model weight along with mandating mufflers complete an annual review of the speedway’s regular division specifications.

The tentative 2012 Port Royal Speedway season opener is slated for Saturday, March 17 at 6 PM, featuring 410 and 358 sprint cars.

The first late model show of the year is planned for March 24 along with 410 sprint cars.

The annual awards banquet is coming up in one month, on Saturday, January 28 at the Port Royal Community Building.  Doors for the event will open at 6 PM.

Tickets are currently available at the speedway office, priced at $30.00 each.

Season reserve seats and passes are also currently on sale.

Orders for all tickets/passes may be placed by phone between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays by contacting the speedway office at 717.527.2303 OR by mail via check or money order made payable to: Port Royal Speedway, Box 295, Port Royal, PA, 17082.
