Rare Monday Port Royal Show Has Late Model Spdwk Grinestaff Memorial June 2

USAC Eastern Storm, Penn Central/EMMR Racing Reunion Night June 7

Port Royal – The Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Speedweek Series will conclude next Monday, June 2 at 7 pm at Port Royal Speedway with the running of the Charlie Grinestaff Memorial for super late models.

The Grinestaff Memorial will pay $4,000 to win and $400 to start the 40-lap main event.  Time trials will set the starting grids for the night.

Also in action will be limited late models with competition open to any 358 late model with an all steel, solid block and the in-house Port Royal 355 econo late models.

Gates for the rare Monday night program will open at 5 pm with adult general admission set at just $20 and students ages 12 – 18 admitted for the usual $5.

The late model speedweek series is a four-night span of races in 2014 that kicks off on Friday, May 30 at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Western Pennsylvania before swinging to Hagerstown Speedway on May 31, Bedford Speedway on June 1 and then finally to the finale at Port Royal Speedway on June 2 when the series champion will be crowned.

Charlie Grinestaff, whom the event honors, was one of the areas standout late model racers during the decades of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Grinestaff, of Willow Street, is credited with 44 overall late model wins in his career and was inducted into the York County Racing Club Hall of Fame in 1994.

The Charlie Grinestaff Memorial is sponsored by Advanced Realty of Mountville and Nikolaus & Hohenadel LLP., of Columbia.

Adult general admission for the show is just $20 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for JUST $5.

Port Royal Speedway comes back with action on June 7 with the wingless super sprint cars of USAC invading the oval for a 30-lap, $6,000 to win main as part of the USAC Eastern Storm tour.

Also on the June 7 program is the ARDC Midgets for their only show of the season at the track and the Gray’s Auto & Towing 355 econo late models.

June 7 will also be the big Penn Central Racing/EMMR Racing Reunion night at the track with dozens of restored racers on display for the night.

The 2014 Founders Awards will also be presented at the June 7 program.
