Stimely Named Chief Pit Steward, 2011 Schedule Close To Release

With a diverse, exciting 2011 schedule nearly finalized, another new face has joined the effort to revamp Port Royal Speedway and its racing programs.

PRS Promotions announced the appointment of Tom Stimely Sr. of Burnham to the position of Chief Pit Steward for the 2011 racing season on Wednesday.

Stimely, a 62-year old lifelong Mifflin County resident, has played a hands-on role in auto racing in one way or another since 1968,when he started out driving in the burgeoning sprint car division.  Along the way, he and his family built and operated Banana Speedway in Lewistown for more than a decade.

In addition, Stimely brings mechanical, technical and fabrication knowledge to the table as well as nearly 40-years of management skills after retiring from New Holland of Belleville.

The 2011 racing schedule is shaping up to be a hit with some 28 race dates slated.  Opening day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 19, at 6 PM.

The 2011 schedule is highlighted by big events for both the 410 sprints and the super late models.  Also appearing on a semi-regular basis during the year will be pro stocks, 305 sprints and enduros.

Numerous promotional nights are planned, including Kids Night on July 9.

The annual Port Royal Speedway awards banquet is coming up at the Port Royal Community Building on January 8.  Deadline for purchasing tickets at a price of $30.00 is December 31
