2011 Port Royal Schedule Released

Port Royal – Port Royal Speedway has unveiled its 2011 schedule of events and it promises to be an exciting year at the historic Juniata County oval.  One of the most exciting and diverse oval schedules in recent memory was unveiled Saturday night at the annual speedway awards banquet.

All told, the 410 sprint cars will take part in 25 of the tracks 28 slated race dates while the late models will appear on 19 occasions in 2011.  The pro stock class will appear in 13 programs.

Opening day is tentatively slated for Saturday night, March 19 when an open wheel double header featuring the 410 sprints and the 358 sprints will be spun off.  A pair of bug days will precede the opener, on March 5 and 12.

The late models will make their first appearance of the season a week later on March 26.  The first three-division program of the season including pro stocks will be on April 2.

The season is highlighted by numerous big events, putting both the 410 sprints and late models in the spotlight.

The intensely popular PA Speedweek series for 410 sprints will hit the track twice, on June 30 and July 2.  The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints will invade the oval for the Bob Weikert Memorial on April 30.  The Keystone Cup for sprints returns to the track on Thursday May 26 and the Dream Race for sprints is slated for August 6.  And of course, the season will end with a huge sendoff in the form of the 44th annual Tuscarora 50 weekend on September 9 and 10 including twin 25s for sprints on Friday night.

Late models will take center stage in Appalachian Mountain Speedweek on June 9 as well as in the Butch Renninger Memorial on September 3.  A Late Model Championship event is slated for July 30.  The Deryl Stong Memorial for pro stocks will be August 13.

The ARDC Midgets, now competing wingless, will return to Port Royal for the first time in a decade in 2011, featured on May 7, June 4 and August 20.  And for the first time since 1967, the URC Sprints will compete at Port Royal on August 27 in a 358/360 sprint challenge event.  It will be just the second appearance ever by the URC circuit at the track.

The increasingly popular 305 sprints have inked six dates for 2011 while the 358 sprints will take part in a total of four programs.  Also appearing throughout the year will be super sportsman, enduros, powder puffs and sidewinder sprints.

All scheduled races on the 2011 schedule will be full point events.

Several special promotional programs are also planned at the speedway including Kids Night, a pair of camera and autograph nights and kids racecar rides.

AMA Motorcycle racing will be featured at the track on June 25.

Speedway schedules will be available at the annual York Dirt Trackin’ show at the York Fairgrounds, held Jan 14, 15 and 16.
