McCardles To Be Feted With Founders Award June 30

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 6/22/11

Port Royal – When Port Royal Speedway presents the 21st annual PA Speedweek series on June 30, two very important men from the speedway’s past will be honored.

Lewistown brothers Eddie and Guy McCardle, now ages 90 and 89 respectively, barnstormed around the Port oval in the 1950’s and helped shape Port Royal Speedway into a weekly racing venue that has become nationally known.

And it’s that commitment and contribution to the track during its formative weekly auto racing years that has earned them the bestowment of the 2011 Port Royal Speedway Founders Award.

The racing brothers will be feted during the speedweek program as the Founders Award winners.

Elder brother Eddie McCardle, now residing in Beaver Springs, was the 1950, 1951 and 1954 track champion at Port Royal, racing under the Penn Central Racing Association banner that created and conducted weekly programs at the track beginning in late 1950.

Guy McCardle, still of Lewistown, toured the oval as well, picking up a pair of wins while Eddie accumulated 14 at Port Royal alone.

But the pair not only was forces at Port Royal.

Together they raced and won at Penn Central tracks including Reedsville, Ebensburg and Snow Shoe.  And before that they toured and raced midgets with AAA.

Port Royal Speedway and PRS Promotions will proudly present the 2011 Founders Award to brothers Eddie and Guy McCardle on June 30.

The 410 sprint cars will vie in a 30-lap speedweek feature paying $5,000 to win.  Pro stocks join the sprints on the card that begins at 7 PM with another PA Speedweek show to follow on July 2 including the late models.

The PRS Promotions team is optimistic as it looks forward to the second half of the 2011 racing season at the speedway while ending the season on a high note with all its scheduled classes.

With some luck from the weather during the second part of the season, PRS Promotions will build on momentum from its regular shows as it lays groundwork for the 2012 season.
