Irene Cancels August 27…

Port Royal – After conferring with URC officials, Port Royal Speedway and PRS Promotions has been forced to cancel the Saturday, August 27 program of 410 and URC sprint cars at the oval.

Keeping in mind the brutal force of Hurricane Irene, speedway officials felt it necessary to ensure the safety of fans and competitors by calling the program just before 1 PM Eastern.

Speedway and URC officials were approached with safety concerns for themselves and family from teams based throughout the Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania region who were faced with traveling on highways under various issued state of emergency proclamations, both to and from the speedway during the height of the storm not to mention the need to evacuate their homes.

For that reason, officials felt the most responsible decision for all involved despite less threatening weather further westward was to call off the program in a timely manner.

The speedway will return to action on Saturday, September 3 with the Butch Renninger Memorial for late models paying $2,000 to win the 33-lap main and $33 to lead a lap.  410 sprints, pro stocks and an enduro dash are also on the program.
