Renninger Award To Honor Spencer Sept. 3, Memorial Now Paying $2,500 To Win

Port Royal – Saturday’s Butch Renninger Memorial for late models is getting richer!  The 33-lap race is now paying a hefty $2,500 to win, $1,300 for second and $900 for third.

An increased purse for the event that will also pay $33 to lead a lap was announced two weeks ago and since that time the race has continued to grow.  Increased purses will also be offered for both the pro stock and enduro dash features on the night as well.

PRS Promotions, Port Royal Speedway and the Renninger family will bestow the 2011 Port Royal Speedway Butch Renninger Loyalty, Dedication and Determination Award to Ed Spencer at the race on Saturday night.

The award is meant to honor the late Renninger by awarding someone who embodies what was his loyalty, dedication and determinative spirit and attitude toward dirt motorsports and Port Royal Speedway.

Spencer was one of Renninger’s chief rivals during both their heyday-driving careers.

While Renninger notched some 41 career wins at the track, Spencer tallied up 34.

Before his sudden death on the track in 2004 just after racing in an enduro event, Renninger had transformed from a competitor to a speedway director and Juniata County Agricultural Society fairboard member who was known for his fierce loyalty and fiery spirit.

It’s those qualities that have earned Spencer the bestowment of this very first Renninger Award.

The award will be presented in conjunction with the 8th annual Butch Renninger Memorial Night at the oval that includes the 33-lap Renninger Memorial for late models.

The 410 sprints, pro stocks and enduros are also on the program that gets the green flag at 7 PM.
