Ruttkamp And Snyder New Names In Port Opener Field Saturday

Port Royal – Gates are ready to swing open for Saturday’s Port Royal Fairgrounds Speedway season opener featuring both the 410 and 358 sprint cars at 6 pm.

And a few new drivers are ready to call Port Royal their sprint car home in 2012.

One driver is Connecticut native Michael Ruttkamp, now of Liverpool.

The former go kart and micro sprint racer is making the move up from a 358 to a 410 sprint car this season and he’s ready to tackle Port Royal.

“I just like the bigger tracks,” the 24-year old racer says.

“It suits my driving style better so it’s easier for me,” he says of the Port Royal half-mile.

When the first 250 fans arrive for the season opener on Saturday, they will receive a free 2012 schedule magnet courtesy of Juniata Beverage.

And Ruttkamp isn’t the only new name the fans will see behind the wheel of a 410 at the track this season.

Accomplished Halifax driver Nate Snyder will be making his debut as a planned regular at the track on Saturday aboard his familiar No. 56 sprinter.

Snyder is a former 358 sprint track champion at Selinsgrove Speedway who is making the move up this season as well thanks to a network of support, just like Ruttkamp.

Mufflers are mandatory for 410 sprint, late model, pro stock and enduro divisions at Port Royal this season.   For 410 sprint cars, Schoenfeld muffler No. 112535 is required.

Adult general admission for the Saturday season opener is $15.00 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for just $5.00.

The 410 sprints will compete in a regular 25-lap feature event with the 358s going 20 laps.  Lineups for both divisions will be set by draw.  Tow money will be afforded to 358 drivers.

Coming up March 24 at the oval will be the season opener for the late models along with the 410 sprints, again at 6 PM.

And then the first three-division show of the year is slated for 6 PM on March 31 with the 410 sprints, late models and pro stocks.
