12th Annual Deryl Stong Pro Stock Memorial This Week At Port, Winner To Net At Least $600, Sprints, Late Models and make up Pro Stock feature too!

 Port Royal – Port Royal Fairgrounds Speedway will host Free Student Night and present the 12th annual Miller’s Auto Parts Deryl Stong Memorial for pro stocks paying at least $600 to win this Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. along with 410 sprints and late models.  A makeup pro stock main held over from March 31 will also be presented.  

Free Student Night will see all students ages 12 – 18 admitted FREE OF CHARGE for the full program of racing.

Aside from Miller’s Auto Parts, other area businesses will be making the Stong Memorial a lucrative event for the pro stocks.

 Stong Memorial Heats will pay $25 to win, $15 for second and $10 to finish third courtesy of Fox’s Pizza of Mifflintown.  The first HP Engine across the finish line in the memorial itself will receive a $50 bonus thanks to HP Engines. 

The Stong Memorial, honoring the late speedway competitor, sponsor and local businessman, will be 20 laps in distance and will pay $5 to lead a lap.  If the same driver can lead each circuit, he’ll boost his earnings to at least $700.

Other Stong Memorial sponsors include BDR Products, BT Truck Service, Geedy’s Garage & Towing, Dave’s Auto Body and Casner’s Service Center. 

So far this season, pro stock mains at the oval have gone to Jeff Bryner and John Heane.  Brian Towsey is the defending event champion.  

Previous Stong Memorial winners have been: Todd Snook, 2001/2002/2006; Bill Powell, 2003; Gary Beward, 2004; Dave Bowsman, 2005; Mike Rowles, 2007; Derrick Garman, 2008; Terry Naugle, 2009; Tim Krape, 2010, Brian Towsey, 2011.  

Sprint car winners to date have been Greg Hodnett, 3; Lance Dewease and Rick Lafferty.  Late model features have been copped by Tim Wilson, 2; and Scott Haus. 

The speedway will host the 6th annual Keystone Cup Smokey Snellbaker Classic for 410 sprints and the only appearance of the season by the super sportsman on Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m. 

Twin 15’s for late models will be the highlight of the Saturday, May 26 racing program that will also be Camera and Autograph night.  Kids racecar rides will also be on the agenda during the night. 

From 5 pm until practice laps on May 26, general admission fans will be permitted access to the pit area in order to meet and greet drivers and obtain autographs and photos.
