After Wednesday Practice, Port Royal Opens With Easter Night This Saturday

“Wabbits & Wacin” on the agenda including free chocolate, sked mags, egg scramble

Port Royal – Port Royal Speedway will try again to get the 2015 racing season underway this Saturday night, April 4, at 5 pm with a three division program of 410 sprints, super late models and River Valley Builders 305 sprints.

However prior to the opener, another attempt at a practice session will be made this week, on Wednesday night, April 1, from 6 – 9 pm.

The practice will be open to any division slated to appear on the 2015 schedule of events. Pit gates will open for practice at 5 pm.

This week’s opener will be Kids Easter Night at the speedway with the first 200 youth entering the main grandstand receiving a free chocolate Easter rabbit.

In addition, a youth egg scramble will be held in the infield just prior to the heat races. And the Easter Bunny himself will be on hand for the night’s action.

Also at the opener, the first 600 fans entering the main grandstand will receive a free 2015 schedule magnet courtesy of Juniata Beverage.

General admission for the show is $15 with students ages 12 – 18 priced at JUST $7.

The 410 sprint winner’s share for the opener is $3,600 including $100 of which is posted in honor of late speedway champion Richard “Dick” “Pete” Swarmer as posted by his son Steve.

The super late models will compete for $2,000 to win in the opener.

Asher’s Chocolates of Lewistown will present each of the night’s winners with giant, chocolate- packed Easter baskets as part of their earnings as well.

All division’s heats and feature events will find starting grids set by draw.

The same starting time of 5 pm will again be used for the Saturday, April 11 program featuring the 410 sprints, super late models, Gray’s Auto & Towing 355 econo late models and the All American Outlaws.

April 11 will also be $1 Hot Dog Night at the track with limited admission Kids Bus Rides slated around the oval.

Last year in the sprint season opener on April 5, Chad Layton and Blane Heimbach dueled for the sprint checkers with Heimbach coming out on top for his only oval win of the season while Tim Wilson scored the opening day late model victory.

Dave Blaney made a surprise appearance and drove home to his second career Port Royal opening day sprint victory in 2013.

Greg Hodnett took the laurels in the opener in 2012 with Heimbach scoring his first opener in 2011 while the current defending track champion, Rick Lafferty started off the 2010s with a win to start the decade.
