Hewitt & Dietrich Help Honor Weikert Saturday At Port Royal

Fans can meet Hewitt, see Weikert sprinter

Port Royal – While the focus of this Saturday’s prestigious Port Royal Speedway All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints Bob Weikert Memorial will be on honoring the memory of the Hall of Fame car owner, another famous name will be on hand to help celebrate.

A Hall of Fame inductee himself and USAC Silver Crown Champion, Jack Hewitt will be making a rare appearance in Pennsylvania for the race with his ride-along sprint car and will be offering three chances for fans to take a ride with him around the historic oval.

But before taking to the track for the rides, Hewitt will be meeting and greeting fans and signing autographs from approximately 5 to 6 pm behind the main grandstand.

Raffle tickets for a chance at one of the rides with Hewitt will be offered for just $1 each or six for $5 with proceeds going to benefit the Central Pennsylvania chapter of the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The LLS has been chosen as the recipient of the proceeds in honor of Weikert, who succumbed to a long battle with Leukemia in 2003.

Also honoring Weikert in the event will be Gettysburg driver Danny Dietrich, who rode to a third-place finish on April 18 at the track.

Dietrich will carry the famous Weikert No. 29 number and colors on his car for the special event and Dietrich will have the car on display behind the grandstand beginning at approximately 4:30 on Saturday night.

Limited edition Dietrich/Weikert Memorial shirts are also expected to be on sale at the event.

Racing action gets underway at 7 pm with gates opening at 4 pm.

Competition also includes the Gray’s Auto & Towing econo late models and the Len Krautheim Auto Sales xtreme stocks.

Nearly $50,000 in total is on the line for the sprint car teams including $15,000 to win the 40-lap feature event to go along with $100 to lead a lap, $100 to win heats and the dash, $300 to set fast time and a $200 hard charger award.

The first 450 fans entering the main grandstand will receive either a FREE Weikert’s Livestock hat or can cooler.

Also during the night 20 five-pound packs of ground beef will be given away off of adult general admission wrist bands. In addition, five girls and five boys bicycles will be given away to registered youth ages 12 and under.

Adult general admission for the show is set at just $25 with students ages 12 – 18 priced at just $7.
