Port Royal And Selinsgrove Speedways Announce Inaugural “Route 35 Super Late Model Challenge Series”

Route 35 Late Model Series Logo (1)SELINSGROVE/PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways have joined forces for the inaugural “Route 35 Super Late Model Challenge Series” in 2016! The six-race series will feature three events at each track to determine the first Route 35 Challenge Series champion.

The super late models will be at one track or the other on the selected challenge series dates. Port Royal will kick off the competition on April 23 and will also host series races on July 2 and September 9. Selinsgrove’s three challenge dates will include May 21, July 23, and Aug. 13.

“Many storied rivalries developed over the years at the two historic speedways separated by a stretch of Route 35,” said Selinsgrove Speedway general manager Steve Inch. “The late model division is popular and competitive at both tracks and this series will create some fun, old-fashioned rivalry.”

“This is a great way for the two tracks to work together and get the fans and race teams involved,” said Port Royal Speedway promoter Steve Oneal. “There will be a lot of bragging rights that go along with winning this title, whether the champion is a Port Royal or Selinsgrove regular.”

A perpetual trophy will be established for the series with each year’s champion’s name engraved on it. Whether the champion is a Port Royal or Selinsgrove regular will dictate on which end of Route 35—Juniata or Snyder County—the trophy will reside until the following year’s champion is crowned.

Track promoters expect to announce a purse stipend for each of the 25-lap challenge series races as well as a point fund when a title sponsor is secured. Additional details on the inaugural “Route 35 Super Late Model Challenge Series” will be released as they become available.
