PORT ROYAL, Pa. – While Port Royal Speedway is silent on May 21 for Spring Break, work continues prepping for the upcoming three-day Bob Weikert Memorial Sprint Car Spectacular at the track on May 28, 29 and 30.

In the last few days, another $1,000 was added to the three-day total purse amount of now $111,000 as the Monday sprint car winner’s share was boosted to $5,000 for the 25-lap affair.

In addition, title sponsor Greencastle Livestock Market has come on board for the Sunday URC portion of the three-day show.

Plus, the previous posted bonus for the top three finishing 358 sprints in the URC feature has been changed to be an equal $200 to each of the three drivers, now sponsored by Racer’s Used Parts Warehouse.

FREE GIVEAWAYS will be the name of the game for the May 28 and 29 show dates of the Weikert Weekend with over 1,000 Weikert items alone to be given out between the two nights including mugs, hats, can coolers and more plus as Sunday is also Pepsi Night, another 200 Pepsi shirts and hats will be given out on Sunday.

All giveaways will take place at the main admission gate under the grandstand.

Along with the Pepsi shirts and hats on Sunday, numerous 12-packs of soda will be given away along with tickets to local amusement parks and more.

At both the Saturday and Sunday shows, five girls and five boys bicycles will be given away to kids ages 12 and under and one adult fan will go home with a large flat screen TV at each of the three shows.

The 2016 Weikert Memorial 410 sprints will compete in the now traditional Fallen Heroes Championship on Saturday, May 28 featuring a 30-lap main paying $5,000 to win and $400 to start.

Passing points awarded from qualifying events will be used to align the main event starting grid.

The super late models will race in a 25-lap Fallen Heroes Championship as well on May 28, paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start.

Action then swings to Sunday night, May 29 when the Weikert Memorial sprints spin off time trials to set heat grids before moving on to a 35-lap feature paying a whopping $10,000 to win and $500 just to start.

The URC Sprints will compete in a 25-lap, $2,000 to win, $200 to start main event, also on Sunday.

And after Sunday, less than a day later, the whole weekend of sprint car mania culminates with an afternoon program for the Weikert Memorial sprints paying $5,000 to win in a 25-lap main.

And after the dust settles, the three-day Weikert Memorial Champion will be crowned and a five-position point fund worth nearly $9,000 will be paid out with the title holder himself going home with $3,000.

In the event of only two events being completed due to weather, a two-day point fund worth more than $6,000 will be distributed.

Racing on Saturday and Sunday begins at 7 pm with action on Monday at 5:30. Gates open at 4 on Saturday and Sunday and at 2:30 on Monday.
