Port Royal Speedway Hosts PA Speedweek Twice This Week!!

Speedweek action hits oval for Thursday, June 30 special and again July 2

Moon Shine Camo Rt. 35 Dirt Late Model Challenge Series Highlights Saturday Card

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Port Royal Speedway will be in action twice during the week coming up as two big PA Speedweek shows hit the track, first on Thursday, June 30 and again on Saturday, July 2.

Both shows begin at 7:30 pm.

The entire 2016 speedweek series is sponsored by Always Racing, a pastoral organization that ministers to the motorsports community during times of trauma and also in spiritual need.

The June 30 program features the PA Speedweek sprint cars in a 30-lap main paying $7,000 to win.

The Gray’s Auto and Towing econo late models are also on the program.

Saturday’s show features the speedweek sprints in another 30-lap main, paying $5,000 to the victor.

The second Port Royal race in the inaugural Moon Shine Camo Rt. 35 Dirt Late Model Challenge Series with Selinsgrove Speedway is also slated for the holiday weekend card.

The Moon Shine Camo Series event will pay $2,000 to win and $200 to start the 25-lap main event for the super late models.

Beavertown’s Hayes Mattern kicked off the series at Port Royal on April 23.

Gates for the Thursday special open at 5:30 pm with Saturday gates opening at 4:30 pm.

Adult general admission Thursday is $20 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for $7.

Saturday adult admission is $22 with $7 admission for students.

Already a one-time winner at the track this season, Royersford’s Steve Buckwalter is the defending Port Royal speedweek winner.

The last and only other time that the track has been able to complete two speedweek events in one year was in 2011 when Greg Hodnett and Justin Henderson split a pair of Port Royal features.

Hodnett has been by far the big winner at the track this season, recently recording his sixth oval triumph of the year to increase his point lead in a quest for a first-ever Port Royal track title.

Stevie Smith is the defending overall PA Speedweek series titlist.

Hodnett will be trying to net car owner Michael Heffner his first series title in 2016 aboard Heffner’s famed No. 27.
