Inside Line Promotions – BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (June 20, 2022) – Joey Amantea produced three top 15s during a successful debut with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars last week.

Amantea finished 11th at Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Wednesday, 19th at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, 15th at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday and 13th at Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Sunday during USAC Eastern Storm races.

“I thought it was very successful for us,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting what it was. Every night I learned more and more about how hard I could push it.”

Amantea kicked off the busy week last Wednesday at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, N.J., where he qualified 20th quickest, placed seventh in a heat race and hustled from 19th to 11th in the A Main. The eight positions gained marked the third-most cars passed.

“We ended up missing hot laps because I had a RACEiver problem so our first time in a 410 was qualifying,” he said. “In the heat race I figured it out a little better. We were fast in the feature. I threw some slide jobs with guys like (Brady) Bacon. We needed one more spot for a top 10, but I feel like next year during Eastern Storm we’ll be competing in the top 10.”

Amantea gained a trio of positions to finished 19th on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. His best qualifying performance of the week was Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., where he timed in 14th quickest before ending the night with a 15th-place result in the feature.

“In hot laps I decided to run the car as hard as I could and it paid off in qualifying,” he said. “I think I was up to 13th in the feature and then lost a couple of spots with two laps to go. I should have started running the middle a little more and was hugging the bottom.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday when Amantea gained two positions to finish 13th at Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.

“At Bloomsburg it was about survival,” he said. “I felt faster than Justin Grant in the heat race and every time I’d catch him I couldn’t see him.

“I’m just grateful and thankful for the opportunity to race all week. To move forward and pass cars made me happy. I got a lot of experience with the 410, which will help change my driving in the 360. The best thing I learned is how to throttle it into the corner instead of using the brake and turning. I think getting back in a slower car and a little heavier car I’ll be able to drive it in harder.”

Amantea plans on racing a micro sprint this Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.
